ABOUT

Pamela Dyment, M.A.

I am excited to welcome you to my practice. My name is Pam Dyment and I have been a behavioural scientist-practitioner working in the fields of early intervention, education and mental health for the past 3 decades. my education and experience is extensive, unique and eclectic. I began my career in Calgary, AB working in some of the first early intervention programs in Canada and was trained in the use of applied behaviour analysis. Behaviour science continues to inform and influence my practice as do other approaches that are supported by research and my own experience in the field.

Over the years I have contributed to the establishment of two private schools for children with developmental disorders, Janus Academy and New Heights Learning Services, both in Calgary, AB. In 2007 the Calgary Board of Education created a new position to capture my unique skill set and invited me to join their learning services team where I supported students, educational assistants, teachers, and administrators at the school and systems level to improve understanding around ASD, evidence-based practice and contributed to the creation of polices to improve services for learners with complex learning needs. While with the CBE I also created and supervised an intensive assessment and treatment program for learners with severe behaviour.

In 2013 I moved to Victoria to complete a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership and a graduate certificate in Applied Behaviour Analysis through the Florida Institute of Technology. While on Vancouver Island I was offered contracts with the Ministry of Child and Family Services to provide consultative services for parents, schools, and healthcare providers working with children and youth with severe behaviour challenges.

After switching to offering parent coaching services online during the pandemic, I quickly realized how effective and efficient these services could be in comparison to the in-person model I had followed for years. With the list times for diagnosis and treatment becoming even longer, I decided to return to early intervention and offer coaching for parents of children who may not be following a typical developmental trajectory in terms of language, learning and behaviour.

My return to early intervention and passion for parent coaching is also driven by my own experience as a parent of two adult sons and a grandparent to a neurodivergent preschooler. With more than 3 decades of working with diverse populations, my goal as a consultant is to help families build parenting skills that are effective in the context of their wonderfully unique child.
